IS THIS RIGHT? SANDRA EKPERUOH, FOUNDER OF LADY MECHANIC INITIATIVE WORKSHOP SEALED

Lady Mechanic, Sandra Ekperuoh's Mechanic Workshop In Vi Sealed

There has been an outrageous incident at 1004 in Victoria Island, where over 40 policemen and officials from the Waste Water Management and Sewage Board, an arm of the Ministry of Environment, this morning stormed the mechanic workshop of Nigeria's first woman auto mechanic, Sandra Aguebor-Ekperuoh, and sealed the place.
Her auto workshop, where she employs only female mechanics. Sandra, has been an auto mechanic for the past 27 years, and runs an NGO that empowers women which is called the Lady Mechanic Initiative and has also empowered and graduated over 150 women in Lagos State alone.
Sandra has over 150 women mechanics in Abuja and 100 women mechanics in Benin where 50 of the girls are graduating in three weeks time. She has done so much done so much to empower women in this country and helped to reduce prostitution in her home state Edo, so it's so sad to see this tragedy happening to her.

Taking land from her should not be her reward.

She trains these girls for free, still gives them a salary and accommodates them. The land that was sealed today houses the Lady Mechanic Workshop and a hostel for her girls where the girls, some of them orphans, stay rent free.

The reasons for sealing the place as they say is that the land belongs to the Lagos State government. But funny as it seems, Sandra has been on that land for the past 10 years.

WHY DID LIVERPOOL STRIKER LUIS SUAREZ BITE CHELSEA DEFENDER BRANISLAV IVANOVIC?

.

Don't you think this dude overreacted
Liverpool striker Luis Suarez yesterday, Sunday April 21st bit the arm of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during their Premier League match.

The Uruguayan striker sank his teeth into the Serbian defender's arm after a tussle during the second half of the match. Suarez didn't get penalised for the bite because the referee didn't see it.

He went on score the equalizing goal for Liverpool. He has since apologized for his actions, but I'm sure the English FA will still penalize him

What do you think will happen to him for his reaction?

CHINA DETAINS 10 PEOPLE OVER SPREADING BIRD FLU RUMOURS

China Police has arrested at least 10people for broadcasting rumours about H7N9 bird flu, according to state media, as the death toll from the new strain of the virus rose to nine.

Bird flu drill in China

Authorities made the arrests in six provinces – Shaanxi, Guizhou, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui and Fujian – after some posted "fake information" online about new cases of the virus in their areas, the official Xinhua news agency said.

The death toll and number of infections in China from the strain of bird flu first found in humans last month has risen daily.

Nine people have died out of the 31 confirmed cases of the virus, all in eastern China, according to data from the National Health and Family Planning Commission. State media quoted authorities as saying a vaccine should be ready within months.

One man detained in Anhui was given seven days of administrative detention for fabricating posts about infections on Chinese microblogs, Xinhua said. The Xi'an public security bureau in Shaanxi province is investigating another man's posts, "to prevent untrue information from causing public panic", Xinhua said.
Scientists around the world have praised China for its handling of the deadly outbreak, but many Chinese are sceptical of the government's pronouncements about the H7N9 virus given a history of public health scandals and cover-ups.

China government has been questioned by chinese users why they waited weeks to announce cases of the bird flu strain, but health officials said it took time to identify the virus, which was previously unknown in humans.

The latest H7N9 victim was from Anhui province, Xinhua reported. Among the new cases are several from Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, at least one of whom is dangerously ill, the news agency said.

The China Securities Journal reported on Wednesday that a vaccine for H7N9 had been authorised by China Food and Drug Administration and was expected to be introduced to the market in the first half of this year.

The source of the infection remains unknown, although samples had tested positive in some birds in poultry markets that remain the focus of investigations by China and the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Tuesday it was looking into two suspected "family clusters" of people in China who may be infected with the H7N9 virus, potentially the first evidence of human-to-human spread.

The new virus is severe in most humans, leading to fears that if it becomes easily transmissible, it could cause a deadly influenza pandemic.

However, WHO spokesman Gregory Hartl told a news briefing in Geneva that so far there is no firm evidence of human-to-human transmission occurring, which could spark a pandemic. Chinese health authorities have said the same.

WHAT! GAY MARRIAGE IN AFRICA

So you might say its no news. But you can imagine how absurd this could be as hundred to thousands of people gathered to watch this traditional wedding of these two men somewhere in Africa.

BEE VENOM COULD HEAL AN HIV PATIENCE

There has been a recent discovery by some scientist in the Washington university in U.S that bee venom could prevent and neutralize HIV.

It turns out bees — on top of making delicious honey —  produce an enzyme component, located in their venom, which scientists at Washington University in St. Louis have used to target and kill HIV virus, thus preventing them from infecting cells they come into contact with. The scientists focused on particular toxin called melittin, which can be used to break down cell walls.

Physician-researcher Joshua Hood of Washington University in St. Louis and his colleagues tested the toxin-carrying nanoparticles on HIV in the lab. The particles preferentially locked onto HIV and delivered their cargo: The venom component, a toxin called melittin, poked holes in HIV’s protective protein coat, leading to sharply reduced amounts of virus, the researchers report in the current issue of Antiviral Therapy.

They also tested it in healthy human cells obtained from vaginal walls. Although melittin is known to degrade cell membranes, these vaginal cells were largely unperturbed by the treatment because the nanoparticles holding the melittin come equipped with protective structures attached on their outsides. These act as bumpers to prevent the nanoparticles — and particularly the toxin they carry — from contacting the cell membrane. That allows the nanoparticle to bind to the much smaller virus using a specific lock-and-key structure that fits onto the virus’s protein shell.

The study authors tested cells from vaginal walls because the vagina is often where HIV enters the body in women. Hood suggests these early findings could prepare the way for further testing, with the long-term goal being a vaginal gel containing the nanoparticles. If such a product killed HIV on contact, the scientists note, it would be especially valuable in heterosexual couples in which one partner is infected with HIV and the other is not.

IS FASHOLA BRINGING THE BIKES BACK?

Is Fashola bringing the Motorbikes back?

We know that motorcyclist (which is popularly known as okada) for months has been restricted from plying major highway in the urban areas in Lagos State. speedy movement have since reduced and has not been very easy with business men and women who frequently transport on Okada especially on the mainland, but we do hear that his excellency Fashola might call this back, though not sure it might be a very critcal decision if motorbike would still be operating in major highways.

However, in effect of the protest by some okada men during the recent band of motorcyclist on the Lagos expressway there still might not be a change in the restriction of okada.

If this then be the case then there should be a faster and convenient means of transportation which could ease transportation. We shall however later look at some major unknown reasons Fashola band motorbikes from operating.

Thank you for reading.
